Reflection – Friday 13th

November 12th, 2009

Today is the “Tell it digitally” competition due. I have prepared both entry forms. The email is at Central Office – all I need is one completed story. I hope the Project Room to submit is easy. Last week I saved both of the stories and it would not save on portable hard drive. Would not email. But it did save on a stick – go figure!! Neither story is close to the limit, so that is good. It has been interesting to watch these students develop – taking photos was the easy part. They began by labelling the photos, then came a far out story, now I think we have reached a middle ground. The students wrote the story synopsis that went on the entry for. I just want it all to be finished and submitted now.

Although I can only enter one, both of the stories will be put on the school website, so that will be a thrill for them.

Reflection – this week – ICT’s

November 5th, 2009

ICT certificate – This was our last week. I had added the Smart Classrooms link to the VCR, and walked them through it. There was also an example of a
reflective statement. It was interesting to
watch – they then paired up and learnt from
each other. They have turned into a
community of learners.

last week

November 5th, 2009

Missed last week. I had a few days off sick and the District GEMs day at Coomera Springs. Server was also not behaving.
ICT certificate – last week – presented. Dan did One School and NAPLAN. Graham looked at Easiteach and Assessment. Rod’s USB was not working – but
talked about communication. The others did
not turn up – Report Cards!

30 October – this week in ICTs

October 29th, 2009

ICT certificate course – was difficult this week – server problems. Of the 7 people doing the course, 1 was away, 2 dropped out and 1 did not do the homework and did not turn up. That was disappointing but it is an adult class and they are the responsible ones. The presentations were interesting – communicating, NAPLAN and assessment and using Easiteach. All of these topics will be used. Added to the community based on a request. Added taking screen shots and hyperlinking in word. This is making the community useful and dynamic.

ICT reflection – 23/10

October 22nd, 2009

Staff PD – This week I added to the ICT community a new button ‘Gifted Education’. All staff attended my workshop on identification of the gifted. They were asked to reflect on 3 things they learnt from Module 1 – What is giftedness? and identify students we need to keep an eye on.

ICT certificate – This week we looked at Learning Objects and Computers for Teachers Community. In the time available, we could only touch on a few things, but raised awareness. This was a challenging session – with all of the participants wanting something different at the same time. I found it difficult to give anyone a lot of quality time. Will be interesting to read their reflections on this session.

ICT reflection – 16/10

October 22nd, 2009

The ICT certificate started with them looking at doing their homework – adding their reflections to the discussion board – discussion of the statements which they agreed strongly and disagreed strongly.
We looked at safe, legal and ethical. The EQ Code of Conduct site and others. The discussion was useful and engaging. It also highlighted the challenges in definitions. I had to contact Brisbane to ask what does “unacceptable behaviour” mean? (the reply talked about inappropriate texting to students etc)
The “Tell it digitally” project – students have all taken their photos and inserted into PhotoStory. The difficulty they are having is digital story telling. Most were simply labelling the photos. Will start next week with a review of this.

ICT Reflection – 9 October

October 22nd, 2009

This week began the ICT certificate for 6 staff members. It was great to watch the discussion about how computers are used in their classrooms. These guys were motivated and on-track.
The ‘Tell it digitally’ project starts this week. It was interesting to watch the students learn more about cameras and digital memory cards. These are real life skills they can carry with them. I am working with 12 7th year students who do not attend sport. I had previously done a qick ‘this is how to use’ lesson and you get to play with it for all senior classes

September 20th, 2009

I am having problems adding an avatar. Does anyone know what to do? I made an avatar doppelme.com, but having problems adding? Thanks in advance.

made an interactive avatar

September 19th, 2009

I have made a cute dog avatar which I can use with the students – but don’t remember how to put it into my virtual classroom. It feels like I have only managed half – little steps I guess.

Frustrating start

September 17th, 2009

I have found all of the different usernames and passwords difficult to work with. Does anyone have a surefire way to keep all of this under control?
